Happy Fall Y’all

This is what we tend to say in the South.  Fall is my favorite time of the year. I feel like excitement is in the air.  The holiday season is approaching and Middle Aged Manor is decked out in her Halloween finery.  I love Halloween.  It is my very favorite holiday with fond memories of my Grandma Rush having a box of handmade costumes that my sisters, cousins and I would hand down through the years. My very first costume I ever made was a tiny witch costume for my daughter Rachel at only a month old.  The next year she was a tiger, also hand made.  And I am not much of a seamstress but I made those costumes. I made myself a clown costume when I was pregnant with my daughter Sean. I have always enjoyed decorating with pumpkins and mums and now I have a huge collection of spooky stuff that rivals my Christmas bins!

The air has turned crisp here in NC. We pride ourselves on not turning the heat on until the temperature gets below 40 and it is close these last mornings.  I am ready for a fire in the fireplace, and mine is wood burning which I love.  I have a new fire-pit in the backyard and I am anxious to try it out. Bella stays curled up at my side when I am not at work and sucks up my body heat or she lays in the sunshine filtering in through the windows.

This year seems different.  The last two years were surreal and odd.  No trick or treaters and I didn’t bother with the decorations.  This year I pulled it all out and set it up early. Everything will be festive and happy. I have tons of candy and hope for a bunch of kids.  My dog Wally, who passed away 3 years ago used to love Halloween too.  He would watch out the window for the kids and help me greet them. He was well known and loved in the neighborhood so all the kids would say “Hey Wally!  Happy Halloween.” So many great memories in my 32 years at Middle Aged Manor.

I have a lot going on here with my first solo book in editing and another compilation book also in editing. I am working on my first fiction novella that will be a series (fingers crossed). I am taking classes and finishing my Reiki 3. By spring I will be a certified Life Coach (also fingers crossed).  I am stoked for the future and it is as bright as the gold twinkle lights I put up in the big bay window in the front in the spring of 2020 and called my Hope lights. I just told Alexa to turn them on. Because I am filled with Hope and Happiness. And I need a fire! Happy Fall Y’all!  GG
